Taking a reading

Open Loudmark, type a label (for example “Kitchen”) and tap Take Reading. It settles for a second, measures for ten seconds, then saves the result under that label.

With Siri, say “Hey Siri, Loudmark reading” and answer with a label. For a label you've used before, say “Hey Siri, Loudmark reading for Kitchen”. Siri tells you the result, and a Live Activity shows progress on the Lock Screen.

Siri doesn't start a reading

How accurate are the numbers?

Readings are A-weighted like a sound level meter, but iPhone microphones vary, so treat them as approximate and comparative, not certified measurements. If you have a sound level meter, take a reading next to it and adjust Settings › Calibration offset until Loudmark's average matches.

Use the iPhone's own microphone: a reading taken through a Bluetooth or car hands-free microphone is marked with a warning, because those microphones filter out noise.

What the numbers mean

Syncing and deleting

Readings stay on your iPhone unless you turn on Settings › Sync with iCloud, which uses your own private iCloud storage. Swipe left on a reading to delete it. To remove the iCloud copy, go to iOS Settings › your name › iCloud › Manage Storage.
